City Council to discuss Cobo privately on Thursday
City Council has just scheduled a special session for 11:30 a.m. Thursday to hold a private meeting to discuss its lawsuit against Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr., which, if successful, would kill plans to turn over Cobo Center to a regional authority and pave the way for $288 million in renovations.

    COBO CONFLICT CONTINUES
At press time, the fate of the city’s ownership of Cobo Hall hung on the outcome of City Council’s lawsuit.

Cobo deal displays collaboration at its best
The recent developments regarding Cobo Center show that we have made great progress as a region, but that we still have far to go. One D commends the representatives of Detroit, the state, and Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties who developed a Cobo plan that will create an economic synergy to benefit the entire region.

Editorial: 'Take it or leave it' should be message on Cobo deal
The Detroit City Council's majority seems to be under the impression that there is a better deal on improving the Cobo Center waiting in the wings. There isn't. And the council members need to be forcefully told just that by the other players in the Cobo deal.

    Cobo's $288-million funding question
If, as U.S. Rep. John Conyers suggested on Saturday, it is "more likely than not" that funds from the $787-billion economic stimulus bill could be used to cover the cost of expanding and renovating Detroit's Cobo Center, he seems to be one of the few in the nation's capital to make mention of it

    COBO DEAL: FICANO’S DREAM
Why is Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano pushing so hard for a regional Cobo Hall authority, even consenting to anti-Detroit terms demanded by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson? Cockrel to appeal Cobo decision as officials debate what killed deal
The breakdown in negotiations over the transfer of Cobo Center to a regional authority was over the city's desire to secure purchasing preferences, according to Oakland County officials.

Cockrel, Detroit City Council resume negotiations on Cobo
Negotiations on a proposed regional authority to run Cobo Center resumed this afternoon between Detroit Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. and the Detroit City Council.

Cockrel To Veto Judge's Cobo Decision
Detroit Mayor Ken Cockrel said he will appeal a judge's decision to block Cobo Center from being turned over to a regional authority that would have brought a $288 million upgrade and expansion of the downtown convention center.

Council to meet in private on Cobo dispute
The Detroit City Council is expected to hold a closed session at 9:10 a.m. today to discuss the council’s lawsuit against Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. about whether a regional authority for Cobo Center can proceed.

Deal may be brewing to settle Cobo fight
A judge considering whether to halt the transfer of Cobo Center to a regional authority is delaying his decision, buying time in hopes the City Council and Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr. can reach a compromise.

Detroit needs to think grander for new Cobo facility
I hope Detroit City Council's nay vote in the battle of Cobo Hall will be upheld, but only because the proposed expansion is, at best, half-hearted and little more than a waste of money at a time the city and the tri-county region need to be betting on winners, not losers.

Detroit mayor plans appeal of Cobo Center decision
